Words of Our Lady
There are many ways in which people suffer in the world, but many peoples' suffering comes in the form of a sickness. If you are one of those people, or you know someone who is suffering with an illness of some kind- perhaps the words of Our Lady of Medjugorje will bring you some comfort.
Some of you may know about the apparitions in Medjugorje that have been taking place for over 20 years and continue to still occur. Since the apparitions are still ongoing, there has not been a decision made yet by the Vatican if these were deemed true or not, but word has it that Pope Francis is working on approving the first apparitions of Our Lady of Medjugorje even while these later apparitions are still occurring.
With that being said, I had the opportunity to read the words of one of the visionaries, Vicka, and what Our Lady of Medjugorje said about sickness.
This is what Vicka explains about Our Lady:
"Our Lady says that sickness is a gift of God, for God knows why He has given this gift to me, to you, to anybody, and He knows when He will take it back, and He demands our patience. Nothing has been given without a reason; everything has its why, and so, She says, when it is given to you, say 'Thank you, O God, for this gift. If you have another such gift, I am ready to accept it. But give me also the strength that I may do this for You with the heart and with love.' Our lady once pointed out that we are not able even to imagine what an importance our suffering has in the eyes of God."
These are very beautiful words of Our Lady, but also very hard to understand- especially in the midst of going through a sickness. It is very hard to say "Thank you" for a gift, like an illness, if you don't even want the gift- right?
Well, this is where faith comes into play. Just as we know that Our Heavenly Father wants the very best for us so that we may be with Him for all eternity in the "place He has prepared for us," we must have faith that if God gives us this "gift" of suffering, then He knows how much good it will bring your soul and the souls of the people around you.
God sees all that you go through. He even has all the hairs on your head counted- and if you have cancer and have lost your hair then these words are even more meaningful! God knows what His gift is costing us- and yet, He still gives it to us because He sees the greater good that will come from it.
Let us choose to have faith today in knowing that whatever suffering we are going through, there will be a great benefit from it!
Take a moment and think of the sickness or suffering in your life and say "Thank you" to God for it. It may be very hard to say and you may not even mean the words at first- but the feeling will come later. You choose to be thankful for your cross today and Our Blessed Mother will shower you with the graces to actually mean what you say! This is the beauty of our faith!
Let us pray, "Mary, my mother, please give me the grace to praise God for the mercy of suffering in my life and of those closest to me. Soften my heart to see, with eyes of faith, the very good things God has planned for my life. Amen."
