Resume for God's Work
I have just stumbled upon a treasure of a book- Matthew Kelly's latest book titled: "The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity." I promise not to spoil what the "biggest lie" is (you'll have to read it for yourself), but I could not pass the chance to share such an inspiring quote and prayer from this book.
Matthew Kelly posed the question, "Have you ever wondered what God looks for on a resume?" What he is asking is, How does God choose who to carry out His great missions? We know, just from looking at the Apostles and the Saints, God does not always choose the most obvious candidate. This must mean that God does not need the brightest, prettiest, most efficient, most powerful or wealthiest person for the job, but rather, seems to choose just the opposite. How can this be?
In this little book, Matthew gives us what he believes to be the answer- Availability. "Availability is what God looks for in the resume of our hearts." All we need to do is make ourselves available to His holy will. Isn't this amazing?
There is no need to worry about what we are bringing to the table- God can transform all things as long as we give Him the chance- and make ourselves available to him. Let us not get lost in the fear of the unknown and what God might do, but rather let us get ready.....Let's get ready to see what awesome things God can do with our little "yes."
Here is a prayer that Matthew Kelly prays and encourages all of us to pray:
Lord,
Here I am.
I trust that you have an incredible plans for me.
Transform me. Transform my life.
Everything is on the table.
Take what you want to take and give what you want to give.
I make myself 100 percent available to you today.
Transform me into the person you created me to be,
so I can live the life you envisioned for me at the beginning of time.
I hold nothing back.
I am 100 percent available.
Lead me, challenge me, encourage me, and open my eyes to all your possibilities.
Show me what it is you want me to do, and I will do it.
Amen.
God wants to transform all of us into beautiful saints! Let's not miss this opportunity! We need to stop filling our lives so completely that we don't have any time for God's plans for our holiness. If we make ourselves available to whatever and however God plans to make us holy, we will have front row seats to watching a miracle unfold!!
