This is the Day

March is finally here!  Even though the weather is not the best where I live, here in Ohio, the change in calendar seems to bring with it much anticipation for spring!  It almost seems to have awakened in me a new excitement for each day as we await to see little flowers starting to sprout up and which birds will be coming back from their migration.

This excitement for each coming day has led me to think about the possibilities that are held within each and every day we are given.  Each day is a special gift from God in which he fills it brimming over with opportunities to make us holy and essentially, to change the whole world for the better.  The deceiver would have us believe that we cannot make much of a difference at all....that what we are capable of doing is so small in comparison to the large and continually growing problems of the world.  Do not listen to these lies, for that is what they truly are, lies.  Each new day you are given a moment at a time to choose, as Mathew Kelly would say, "The next best choice."  It is by these small acts of love and kindness that our world will be changed.

Today, in the Magnificat, there was a small reflection that really spoke to me.  It said, "Wickedness is not always overt:  the neglect of simple kindness, great or small, kills as surely as open violence."  What opportunity, for good or for evil, is present in each moment put in front of us!

I want to leave you with the words of Mother Angelic because she was never at a loss for words on any subject!!

"I think these are times for great holiness and great saints, greater than any time in the past because there is more evil, more temptation.  The fight is greater.  The danger is greater and the opportunities are greater.  God is not mocked and this world is not going to pot.  You can save it.  You can change it by being faithful to the duties of your state of life with holiness.  God will raise his saints in this age, and they will change the world.  He gives you an opportunity right now to do it, and if you don't it will still be done, by another.  Each one of us must look upon the world as our own personal duty to change."  ~Mother Angelica
