See You in Heaven

Hello Dear Readers, I wanted to share with you a beautiful quote that will hopefully inspire you in this New Year.  I had read a book about a year ago titled, "See You in Heaven" by Maria Thompson.  This beautiful little book was written by a daughter about her mother, who died prematurely in her early sixties from a heart condition.  Her mother, Rosie Gil, left many letters she had written to her children about how to be a saintly mother and these letters were discovered after her death and published in this little book.  Rosie's husband, Robert Gil, has received the permission of his Bishop in Alabama to spread the news of Rosie's inspiration and her cause to begin the process for canonization has begun. I have copied, with Mr. Gil's permission, his latest weekly newsletter for your own inspiration.  Here it is:

                           See You in Heaven

                  Promoting the Beauty of Motherhood

Dear Mothers and Families,                                   January 24, 2018

A reflection from Rosie, in a prayer she wrote for herself, I believe is appropriate as we start this new year.  She writes in her prayer:

“O my Jesus, please help me to want for a simple life.  Help me to work for heaven.  Help me not to seek so soft and comfortable a world.  Help me to seek simple food and entertainment.  Take away my desire to want so much and to go so much.  Help me to see that when I am so busy I don’t think about you very much.  When I am so busy I don’t pray.  When I am so busy I get impatient with people and things.  Teach me your ways, O Lord. (pg. 130)

Maria writes about her mother’s prayer life, in her book.  She says:

“My mother applied St. Therese’s little way to wifehood and motherhood, in being a home schooling mother and grandmother.  In all that her day entailed, she still found time for weekday Masses, daily family rosaries, Eucharistic adoration, chaplets and novenas.  I can still see the glow of the lamplight under her bedroom door where she spent late nights praying, reading and writing.  We knew Mom must be feeling really ill if she did not pray the rosary on her knees.  She strove daily to know God and to know herself, so as to grow perfect in the science of the saints.  She would often say: ‘We all have the same twenty-four hours in a day-don’t waste them’.”   (pg. 66)

It’s not to late for a New Year’s Resolution, or even to add on to it.

God bless you and your family,

                                                                     -Robert Gil
